Welcome to sailingrecords.org

About sailingrecords.org

Here can you add your favorite sailing courses and race against all sailors whenever you want.

Imagine yourself, Wednesday afternoon and a perfect breeze is building. The boat is in mint condition and prepared for race and you are ready to show your muscles. Just one problem, no races until the weekend and the forecast says rain and no wind... However, the wind is perfect for a quick lap around the island nearby! You logon to sailingrecords.org and see that the old man in the boat next to you just beat your old record you had for months by three minutes last week! He set a new time of 1 hour, 34 minutes and 15 seconds, it just has to be taken back. You gather the crew and hit the water. After a perfect flying start with the spinnaker flying are you doing well when you round the island. The beat back to the finish takes slightly longer than you expected but with the help of the tide manage you to take the record back by only three seconds. Despite the small margin are you the fastest boat again and can relax and follow others record attempt on sailingrecords.org (until someone beats you of course :-).

On sailingrecords.org can you enter any course, from around a small island in a small lake somewhere in the world to around the world, as long as the course can be seen with Google Maps. Then can you, and all other members race against each other on the course.

My brother and I go the idea for the site when we where out sailing and had no one to race against and decided to set a good time around Stora Sandskär. The first question that popped up to mind was of course, how fast have anyone sailed around that island? The only thing needed to fully use the site is to become a member which, of course is free.

Happy sailing
/Erik

New Round Gotland Midwinter Challenge record

11/Feb/2008

With the "Playing for Success" Seacart 30, previously owned by Pete Goss did the new German owner Thomas Reinke and his crew of three set a new record time around the Round Gotland Midwinter Challenge (RGMC) course.

The new record of 27 hours, 26 minutes and 39 seconds is 32 minutes better than the old record from last winter, also set with a Seacart 30.

The record window is only opened from first of December until end of February and it is the man behind the Seacart 30, Calle Hennix who is keeping this crazy record hunt alive.

Read more about the record and see the photos on www.oceanlakemarine.com and on www.hamnen.se (in Swedish).
